That might sound obvious, but the truth is that too many alcohol rehabilitation centers in California try to turn alcohol abuse treatment into a generic process. It doesn't work like that.

It's not enough for an alcohol abuse treatment center to help its residents get sober for a few months, or even for a few years. The only healing that matters is that which lasts.

In the fight against alcoholism, you can't afford to settle for someone else's battle plan. At Sunset Malibu, the luxury alcohol addiction treatment programs are designed on a case-by-case basis, with an explicit emphasis on helping patients get sober on their own terms. In the end, anything less than that just isn't good enough.

Alcohol treatment is never easy. If you're going to get sober, it's going to be because you get all the help you need on the road to recovery.

At Sunset Malibu, the caregivers know how alcohol recovery works. For your own sake, let today be the day you let them start proving it to you.

The counselors and therapists at Sunset Malibu's luxury rehabilitation center can give you all the care and support you need on the road to sobriety. But you ultimately have to make the journey on your own two feet. With so much to lose, and so much more to win, it's well past time you finally started walking.

Whoever you are, however tough you believe yourself to be, you can't beat alcoholism without help from professional addiction treatment caregivers. But it's important to remember that not all alcohol rehabs are the same.

For more information on beating alcoholism at the luxurious and private Sunset Malibu treatment center, please visit Sunset's Web site at http://www.drugrehabsunsetmalibu.com. If so, then getting a grip on your drinking is the first step to quitting. It is difficult to quit drinking even at the best of times. Often, people seek out qualified help or the assistance of a program like Alcoholics Anonymous when they can't do it on their own. This isn't always necessary, however. With some fundamental behavior training, many people can find the will to quit drinking on their own. Here are some basic tips to help you get away from alcohol:

When coming home from work, you may feel inclined to stop along the way be it at the grocery store or a bar for a quick drink. By going straight home, you will avoid the temptation of purchasing alcohol at the store and the bar. Once home, you probably will feel less inclined to go back out again. When you do go to the store for groceries, make a habit of purchasing them all at once so you don't have to run out multiple times thus lessening the urge to buy alcohol. Make a habit of going to places that don't serve alcohol like a movie theater or ice skating rink. If you apply just some of these tips, your chances of avoiding drinking alcohol will lessen.

At night, in order to keep both your brain and mouth occupied, chew gum or eat candy. Eat lots of fruit and foods that contain fructose. Like giving up smoking, you need to swap the habit with another. Start working out. Make it routine to go to the gym right after work or if not possible, go home and work out to your favorite music instead. When in a social setting, don't associate with people who drink; talk to them, but don't agree to meet them at a local pub or club. While you may think this behavior will lead to the loss of friendships, those that really love and care about you will not abandon you and will do most anything to support you.

For at least a year or more, do not frequent the bars. If you are on your own, go to coffee shops or try Internet dating as an alternative. It is imperative that you stay away from those familiar places where alcohol is being served. If you don't already have a partner, don't get into any serious relationships until you have your drinking under control- you need to focus on yourself. If you happen to be in a volatile relationship already, get out of it as quickly as you can. The emotional highs and lows that come from a destructive relationship can often lead to emotional behavior that can lead to drinking all over again.

Look into the various drugs now on the market that can help you with the cravings you will feel when you quit drinking. It is especially important to consider taking some of these medications if you have already completely stopped consuming alcohol. There is Antabuse which will make you very sensitive to alcohol should you decide to drink it. Naltrexone can be used to help you reduce your cravings for alcohol and Acamprostate will help bring your brain back to normal after you have drunk large amounts of alcohol for a long period of time.

Decide on why you need to drink. Keep a diary.Try to identify what has the effect to cause you to have a strong desire to drink alcohol, and dodge those situations as much as you possibly can. Forgive yourself and make an apology to those you have offended. You will feel less guilty and you are more unlikely to get the desire to drown your sorrows.

Remember: you can only take your life one day at a time, one step at a time. Recognize that you may feel the urge to drink again at some point in your life but that this time around you have made the choice to be and remain sober. Indeed, it is noteworthy to discuss something that numerous family members who have been adversely affected by the alcohol addiction of another family member evidently do not understand. Without conscious awareness of their actions, when they "shield" the alcoholic with deceit and untruths to those outside the family, these well-intentioned family members have more or less created a state of affairs that makes it relatively easy for the alcohol dependent person to keep up with his or her vicious cycle of hazardous, immature, and irresponsible living.

Enabling and the Reinforcement of Excessive and Abusive Drinking

Stated another way, instead of truly helping the alcoholic and helping themselves address and realistically deal with the alcohol dependent person's disease, these family members have for the most part become enablers who have made a bad situation even worse.

Relapses Can and Do Happen

Similar to enabling, alcohol relapse is another important alcoholism concern. Indeed, substance abuse research demonstrates the fact that most alcohol dependent individuals who stop drinking and get alcohol rehab relapse once, twice, or even more times. Not only this, but some chemical dependency experts frankly assert that relapse is a predictable part of alcohol recovery. It almost goes without saying, then, that alcohol addicted people and their family members need to know this so that they do not get beleaguered or dejected when a relapse occurs.

One aspect of relapse, however, needs special attention: when an alcoholic has successfully gone through alcohol treatment and then starts drinking a number of weeks, months, or even years later.

"He had worked through his drinking problems. Why did he lose control and start drinking again"? This is a classic question that many friends or family members have asked about an alcohol addicted individual who has suffered through a relapse after going through alcohol rehabilitation in a successful and effective manner.

To be sure, to a "normal" person, an alcohol relapse after quite a few months or years of sobriety is so astonishing that it forces one to ask why any individual who has gone through the pain and suffering of alcohol addiction can start drinking once again. Without a doubt, there are more than a few credible reasons for this.

Contrary to what most "normal" individuals comprehend, chemical dependency research has proven that numerous weeks or months after alcoholics have achieved abstinence, fundamental changes in the way in which their brain "works" are still in operation. Unfortunately, all recovering alcohol addicted people have to do to begin acting in ways that are in concert with the transformations that have taken place in their brain is to begin drinking again.

The Need for A Significant Lifestyle Change

Brain transformations aside, there are other plausible reasons why many recovering alcoholics start drinking many weeks or months after attaining sobriety. As an illustration, substance abuse research shows that alcoholics need different and novel ways of reacting and thinking so they can more effectively deal with problematic alcohol-related issues that will arise.

Moreover, situations such as familiar songs, smells, or activities; associating once again with pals from the time when the alcohol dependent person was still drinking in an irresponsible and excessive manner; or returning to the same drinking atmosphere or geographic location--all of these conditions can push various emotional "hot buttons" that tempt recovering alcoholics to start drinking once again.

What is more, all of these circumstances may not only lead to relapse and work contrary to the goals of sobriety, but they may also inhibit long-term recovery.

Fortunately, enduring alcohol dependency rehab outcomes, follow-up training and counseling, and taking part in recovery programs and support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous have not only resulted in fewer alcohol relapses, but they have also helped recovering alcohol addicted people attain long term alcohol recovery.

About the Author:

Denny Mitchell writes about binge drinking statistics, alcohol related deaths, blood alcohol content, alcoholism, and youth alcohol abuse. In fact, it is important to mention something that many family members who have been unfavorably affected by the alcoholism of another family member apparently have difficulty realizing. Unbeknownst to them, when they protect the alcohol addicted individual with deceitfulness and falsehoods to those outside the family, these well-intentioned family members have, for all practical intents and purposes, created a scenario that makes it almost effortless for the alcoholic to maintain his or her destructive, unhealthy, and injurious way of living.

Enabling and the Bolstering of Irresponsible and Dangerous Drinking

Stated in a different manner, rather than honestly helping the alcohol dependent person and helping themselves face and manage the alcoholic's disease, these family members have basically become enablers who have learned how to reinforce the negative and unhealthy behaviors of the problem drinker.

The Likelihood of a Relapse is Real

Not unlike enabling, alcohol relapse is another critical alcohol addiction problem. In point of fact, the alcoholism and alcohol abuse research literature reveals the fact that most alcohol addicted people who quit drinking and get alcohol rehabilitation relapse a minimum of one or two times. Furthermore, some drug and alcohol addiction experts openly state that relapse is an essential part of the recovery process. Obviously, alcohol addicted persons and their family members need to know this so that they do not get overwhelmed or dejected when a relapse happens.

One facet of relapse, nevertheless, demands particular consideration: when an alcohol addicted individual has gone through alcohol rehab in a successful and effective manner and then begins to drink once again many weeks, months, or perhaps years later.

"She had beaten her drinking problem. Why did she fall off the wagon and begin drinking again"" This is a common question that more than a few friends or family members have asked about an alcohol dependent person who experienced a relapse after successfully going through alcohol treatment.

Without a doubt, to the "typical" person, an alcohol relapse after many weeks or months of abstinence is so astounding that it makes an individual wonder why someone who has worked through the misery and anguish of alcohol dependency can begin drinking once again. Of course, there are quite a few reasons for this.

Contrary to what many if not most of the people-on-the-street know, addiction research has verified that many weeks or months after alcohol dependent individuals have become sober, major modifications in the way in which the their brain functions are still present. Sadly, all recovering alcoholics have to do to engage in actions that are linked to the changes that have taken place in their brain is to involve themselves once again in drinking.

A Requirement for A Fundamental Lifestyle Modification

Brain modifications aside, there are more than a few reasons why numerous recovering alcohol addicted individuals begin drinking more than a few weeks or months after successful alcohol treatment. For example and in concurrence with the drug and alcohol addiction research literature, alcohol dependent people require new and varied ways of thinking and responding so that they can more effectively negotiate and manage problematic alcohol-related circumstances that will surely happen.

Denny Mitchell writes about alcohol abuse information, the alcohol rehab center, alcohol testing in the workplace, alcohol poisoning treatment, and about alcohol facts. This article will discuss several of the steps you may want to consider as you take the first steps towards living a more productive lifestyle. We will also address the number misconception that individuals have about early recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

Turning your back on drugs and alcohol can be among the most anxiety provoking decisions an addict can make. There is a mindset that can develop in people who have just made this decision wherein they begin to carry some irrational beliefs. Most often a person falls myth to the idea that, for whatever reason, AA or rehab just won't work for them.

At this point, I'd like to point out a classic recovery fact. Alcoholics have much more in common than might think. Still, the belief remains that a person problems are too personal to be treatable by a recovery program. We call this belief "terminal uniqueness."

This myth is extremely prevalent among the newly sober. If AA has worked for millions of people, it can't work for me because my problems are too unique. Unfortunately, this line of thinking can put a brick wall between you and progress and therefore it is recommended that you abandon it at your earliest opportunity.

So, if you have thrown off your biases and believe that a 12 step program or drug rehab center might work for you here are some steps you can take to begin to get help.

The first thing to do is visit a twelve step meeting in your area. Sure, you will probably be nervous at your first meeting. That's is entirely understandable. But don't let nerves keep you from getting in the door.

Sometimes people pause at this step, looking for the "appropriate" meeting. If your drug of choice was marijuana know that you can still attend an AA meeting. You will not be shown the door in 99% of meetings if you have an addiction to a substance different than what is in the fellowship's title.

Despite what you may believe, there is very little difference between the chemically related twelve step fellowships. All 12 step organizations are based on the principles laid down in the book "Alcoholics Anonymous" (the Big Book) and there is no difference in the methodology of the groups. After a while you may decide you like one fellowship better than another but in the beginning it is just important to pick one and start attending.

If you think you will go to an inpatient rehab center then it especially useful to visit a 12 step group in your area. You will get a handle on the structure and organization of the program. This way you won't take as long to adjust at the rehab which can be a pretty disorienting experience at the beginning.

People often over complicate the process of finding a rehab for the same reasons that they over complicate finding a meeting. It is most critical that you just get to rehab and begin getting better.

It is very common for an addict or alcoholic to be nervous at this juncture. It is advised however that you say a pray and make a plan. By deciding to make a change in your life, you will begin to see changes that will last a lifetime. And you can say goodbye to drug addiction.

About the Author:

In order to get more information about drug addiction and recovery visit our site where we share rehab information and talk specifically about rehab texas.

Alcohol And Liver Conditions

By Ed Philips

The effects of taking Alcohol while on medication with even the smallest of amounts can lead to aggravating the condition. There are up to 150 different medical supplements which will worsen a health condition when taken under the effects of alcohol. One example is antihistamine, whereby the consumption of alcohol will increase the sedative effect hindering the ability to drive or handle machinery.

Tylenol and other pain relievers in conjunction with alcohol can easily lead to liver damage. These are only a few of the types of problems that can occur when people decide to self medicate and then drink alcohol. It is always best to consult with a physician on which medicines should be taken and whether they are compatible with alcohol.

Both legal and social problems can be the outcome of alcohol addiction especially if we are talking about heavy consumption. Problems will most certainly arise at the work place, at home with the family, with the best of friends and with absolute strangers. Hangovers lead to getting up late or not even getting up at all, creating a lack of job productivity and eventually job loss.

Pregnancy and alcoholism is a bad mix as fetal alcohol syndrom is something that will affect the child for the rest of its life. These children are more prone to serious behavioral problems and on going learning difficulties. Physical and mental problems are another consequence of fetal alcohol syndrome.

Long-Term Health Problems: Heavy drinkers may expect liver problems, heart disease and certain forms of cancer. These problems don't occur immediately however continued heavy drinking will guarantee that you will be affected with at least one of them. Medical studies have proven that women who drink are even more prone to breast cancer than those who do not.

Alcohol Related Liver Complications: Liver diseases related to alcohol consumption include hepatitis and inflammation. Be warned that Hepatitis and alcohol abuse is a fatal combination. Approximately 10-20% of all heavy drinkers come down with Cirrhosis, or scarring of the liver, which often requires liver transplants. Furthermore heavy drinkers have a greater risk of contracting hepatitis C virus-HCV-infection which may cause liver cancer.

Depression is another side effect of drinking. After initially stimulating the mind, alcohol will turn to causing sedation with continual consumption. It can also diminish the immune system and produce changes in our logical way of thinking, emotional behavior and judgment. Alcoholic use will also lead to problems with speech and overall muscle coordination. These problems as well as others could eventually lead the alcoholic to fall into a coma.

Problems with Diabetics: Alcohol impedes the release of glucose from the liver which can increase the risk of low blood sugar causing a disease called hypoglycemia. This disease can prove dangerous to your life if you are already taking insulin to regulate the level of your blood sugar.

The pancreas is also at high risk from alcohol consumption as it produces insulin for regulating the blood sugar level. The alcohol can also effect the production of very important hormones used in controlling the metabolism. The pancreas also produces very important enzymes vital for the digestion of proteins and carbohydrates. Long term drinking will cause pancreatitis and an acute pancreatitis can cause severe abdominal pain, diarrhea and weight loss which could be fatal. So quit drinking alcohol now.

About the Author:

Find out how to quit Drinking Alcohol Written by Ed Philips and Quit Alcohol Today.

An Alcoholics Viewpoint Of AA

By Ed Philips

Many of my Alcoholic friends have differing views on how they felt when they first walked into an AA meeting, which probably the bravest thing an alcoholic can actually do.

Alcohol has made most of us feel invincible yet when you walk into an AA meeting and hear the stories from the survivors of this disease you can't help but feel humbled. In these meetings I have met some of the nicest, most generous people you will ever find and each of them has worked hard to get their lives to a point where they are happy without alcohol.

Understandably you might feel apprehensive at first but after a few meetings you will hopefully feel that you are a part of the group and accepted by all the members; once this happens you should recognize that you are spending your time with people who would listen to you all day and be there for you 24 hours a day.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a worldwide organization dealing with every race and creed, but every alcoholic regardless suffers in the same way, and AA knows how to deal with alcoholism at ground level due to it's long history in dealing with the treatment of alcoholism.

Sadly statistics show that if you first attempt at quitting isn't successful you future attempts will have an even smaller chance of success so it is vital that you use whatever help is at your disposal, including medical.

I have just heard on the news that 40,000 people die every year in the UK, due to alcohol related diseases. That really does show how difficult it is for us to face an addiction even though we know that it is life threatening. Help is available for anybody that wants to stop drinking alcohol and going to an AA meeting is as good as it gets, as it tackles every social problem that alcohol can lead to. The unity between alcoholics is truly admirable and helps to really transforms an alcoholics personality, to a point that people won't recognize them as being the same person.

If you know somebody that needs help, please make sure they do get the support and help they need to successfully stop drinking alcohol and prevent them from just becoming another dreadful alcohol related statistic.

About the Author:

Discover how to quit Drinking Alcohol Written by Ed Philips and Quit Alcohol Today. This and other unique content '' articles are available with free reprint rights.

How To Stop Drinking Alcohol In Just 21 Days

By Ed Philips

I have paid a lot of attention recently to just what the symptoms of alcoholism are, how an alcoholic can recognize that they are indeed addicts and not just heavy drinkers and also just how much damage alcohol can cause to family relations as well as causing a negative effect to social behavior leading to complete isolation to the rest of the world.

Alcohol addiction has taken over many lives and infused the drinker with the belief that only through drinking can you survive your day. Giving in to this way of thinking is a path to disaster as you will always be reliant on the bottle for your sense of self.

Often we are given a warning, before it becomes too late, and if we don't answer the call to quit drinking then we most likely will never quit; it is at this point where, if you answer the call, then the advice I am about to give will come in most handy.

To reach that critical decision the need to visualize the importance of your life to the people arround you and hold the belief that if you change your life, you can also help to improve their lives as well as there really isn't a better gift than that of giving. Set a day within reason and try to reduce the daily amount of alcohol consumed and make sure that you wake up to an alcohol free environment as well as having everything you need at home for at least a week.

For the first alcohol free week I want you to stay home; I recognize that we all need to work but try and have your doctor issue a certificate stating that you were recovering from an illness during your time off. The first few days are very tough and getting out of bed will be incredibly difficult, stay in bed until you are ready to face the world without alcohol.

Don't hesitate to rely on those people who want to see you succeed as well as support groups. Beware of feeling over confident during your first few days; all too often people feel that a celebratory drink would be okay which leads them right back to the bottle.

Every day will bring a new challenge and you will be faced with all the same anxieties you had before but this time you will have to face them without alcohol. Don't forget that the only ones who matter are you and your family and your success is vital to everyones happiness.

About the Author:

Discover how to Stop Abusing Alcohol Written by Ed Philips and Quit Alcohol Today.

Tips For Stopping Alcohol Abuse

By Ed Philips

For anyone who drinks heavily there comes a time in your life where you will either decide to quit or face a life situation where you must quit. Regardless of why you quit it is a life changing decision and I want to show you the best ways to keep your eye on the goal and stay away from the booze.

Often people begin drinking due to stress in their life, usually financial problems. When faced with financial problems we often need to give up things in our life that we deem important, so we first want to recognize exactly what is important in life. For most people what is vital is family unity, human contact, your daily bread etc.; unfortunately some people can't see it past the bottle. Changing your lifestyle is where you need to start and with a little patience and self determination you will soon feel as if you have been reborn.

The first morning after having your last drink is the first step to deal with. Now you might feel as sick as a pig (excuse the expression), but that is quite a normal symptom so just stay in bed until you feel the need to get up and see the world through different eyes. Once you have managed to do it once you will always want to be up and about, going for walks and generally feeling good about yourself. I would even go as far as recommending getting a dog, that provides extra responsibility and plenty of exercise, and you will meet a lot more people.

Hopefully this is starting to make sense to you. Be assured that it won't be a bed of roses however each day that you don't take a drink is one day closer to having a better, healthier life. Recognize what is important in life and avoid falling into the high life trap that only leads back to alcohol and other addictions.

Become someone you like again and take this time to do some research using the internet and expand your horizons. When you beat this disease you will take each day as the blessing that it is. I know you can do this because I did and now I will do everything in my power to help people to stop drinking as I know it can be achieved in no time at all.

About the Author:

Find out how to quit Abusing Alcohol by Ed Philips and Quit Alcohol Today.

How You Can Recover From Your Addiction To Alcohol

By Ed Philips

Unfortunately the majority of alcoholics just never get help in time, and refuse to reach out for help until it is too late. If only they had just realized that they had indeed had a problem and that at least somebody had managed to have to perseverance to get the message through. Sometimes though a tragic stories can lead to help other people and even react if they are able to see the same thing happening in their own life. Obviously those who suffer most are an alcoholics direct family so as we all have family this story should be easy enough to relate to.

Bill Kenny woke up one morning to find his 50 year old wife passed out in their bed. She didn't have cancer or heart disease but was severely depressed as her children had recently moved away and she felt lonely and worthless.

Unfortunately Bill was not a very loving man and certainly wasn't the best listener. In fact, he often put her down and criticized her feelings and even managed to distance himself from her dilemma. So Mrs Kenny tried to find for comfort elsewhere, and due to her lack of real friends in her life, she found something that she thought would help - Alcohol.

Why Alcohol? It makes you forget and the problems just disappear making it the perfect solution for a depressed person. Unfortunately Mrs Jones didn't stop drinking for 21 days until one morning she just didn't wake up due to her comatose state. During her stay in hospital her family were only interested in getting her to stop drinking alcohol, and not affronting the issues that most worried Mrs Jones. You see, she was still under the illusion that without alcohol her life would remain a dark existence, so she ended up not even wanting to talk to any of her family.

After 3 weeks in hospital it was decided to let Mrs Jones return home to her husband, who was under strict instructions not to let her drink. Mrs Jones was in a desperate state, and later said she was planning suicide, but then that very morning the phone rang. It was Mrs Jones son Peter with some good news. His wife was pregnant and so they had decided to return home as they would need Mrs Jones help with the other Grand children. Well suddenly Mrs Jones life was turned upside down and she suddenly had meaning given back to her life. Even though she had to wait several months for their return, she was a new women.

The reason I told this story was twofold. Alcohol is not a solution to depression and if you do know an alcoholic personally, ask them what the matter is and act accordingly. Even if you can get their problem met half way it could prevent a tragic end.

About the Author:

Find out how to quit Drinking Alcohol Written by Ed Philips and Quit Alcohol Now.

How To Stop Alcoholics From Lapsing Alcoholism

By James Handforth

There are quite a lot of methods, which can aid in foreclosing alcoholic deterioration. Alcoholism ruins your character and stops you from having a sombre lifestyle. Although it is the most prevailing problem of the general public but also the main cause of every difficulty. Statistics give us the evidence that one out of every forty patients abstain from alcohol permanently.

The most imperative feature of relapse prevention is the attendance of the sufferer during the rehabilitation process. The patient must make sure his maximum attendance during the entire recovery meetings. Besides this, the patient should not dwell lonely. If you find yourself alone, call a friend to give you support or stay in the gathering of sober people, in this way you will move towards a consequential and ambitious life. Another important factor that may prove to be helpful is to have intellectual discussions with your sponsor groups.

You can also avoid going back to alcoholism by keeping yourself busy in constructive activities. Reading books on the subject of prevention from relapse will also work. Practice meditation on regular basis, it will not only keep you steady but also prevent you from abjection alcoholism. Try to rationalise your abnormal attitude. Attitudinal change attributes to the overall change in the personality of an alcoholic. Behaviours are the representative of deeper underlying perceptions. It's the sensitivity which gives rise to optimistic and pessimistic behaviours.

Alcoholics can be prevented from relapsing by keeping an eye on their money consumption. Usually, alcoholics find an alternative for drinking in the form of spending money uselessly. It can also cause craving for drinks, and getting back to extreme alcohol intake. Moreover, counselling should be done to the alcoholics, if obsession overcomes them.

If an alcoholic starts harming himself or abusing others, it shows that he is getting into depression. In such situations, doctor should be consulted regarding bipolar diagnosis. Do not take medicines without prescription because this is also another element of damaging the behaviour.

Having sufficient sleep and eating healthy foods is essential for maintaining an alcohol free life. At times, people keep themselves busy to have timely meals and routine sleep. This also affects the process of rehabilitation thus resulting in alcoholic setback.

The relapse rate goes along with dejection. Mostly, alcoholics get into melancholy and remorse due to the instant setbacks. The main fact aspect to be realised by alcoholics is that courage and fortitude are the only factors needed to prevent relapse. However, some alcoholics are not ready to give up drinking. It has been seen that the younger the alcoholic, the harder it is to avoid relapsing.

The environment also plays a key role to prevent alcoholics from relapsing. If an alcoholic is caught in the company of other alcoholics, then it will become difficult to abstain from alcohol. Spiritual awakening should be raised in people suffering from addiction to alcohol. Long-term change can occur through spiritual growth. This is a key to prevent long lasting alcoholic relapse, as it is a transition of a person from self-centredness to selflessness.

About the Author:

Are you finding reliable alcohol clinic? He or she is ignored by the society as well as by the relatives. Most unrelieved alcoholics either end up in the hospitals or on the streets. When an alcoholic demises, scarcely a few individuals weep for his fatality.

A person may become suddenly addicted to alcohol or the addiction may grow over the time. A sudden tragedy may cause a person to start drinking resulting in addiction. Others may take a few social drinks on weekends, which later grows in a daily affair and then a twenty four seven addiction sets in.

Friends and relatives try to facilitate individuals who show inclination towards drinking. They can try to divert them from drinking and may even have them sent for cure. But no matter what steps the relatives or friends take. It's the individual himself who has to exert his willpower to stop drinking. If their allowances are curtailed, they may commence robbing or begging and borrowing cash from acquaintances and even strangers to get their drinks.

An alcohol addict looses all control of his senses. He is not embarrassed of his activities and no matter how much he may be mocked by the persons around him, he will continue to drink. For him a rebuke or counselling by an elder is like water on a duck's back. It has totally no effect. He enjoys the incessant state of unconsciousness that he remains in and does not have any feelings for anyone or anything. His first and last love is the bottle and the person who provides it to him. Some drunkards don't even care about their relations and allow them to beg and seek out a living for themselves.

An alcoholic looses senses of reality and social norms and in turn the society rejects him. An alcoholic is pressurised by the society to stop drinking or at least consume less alcohol. Unless the person is so powerful that no one dares to question him and are forced to accept him, an alcoholic is generally disliked. Churchill was an example of a person who was fond of drinking but on the other hand had an extremely sharp mind. He proved to be an exception, not the rule.

Drunkards are victims of despair, lonely persons and the more they drink the more isolated they become. Some drinkers tend to become energetic while others can become hazardously violent. A number of well-known artists, poets, philosophers, and thinkers are known to have been fond of alcohol but their fame let them free their minds from the inhibitions that encircled them. Their work excelled because it was free from inhibitions.

Individuals dislike alcoholics and try to shun them and their company. Alcoholics on the other side regard individuals with disparagement and also shun them, other then those whom they are attached to. Alcoholics who are raising relatives or bearing a few other social responsibilities face a lot of strain to drop their practice. A few alcoholics are admitted regularly in rehab centres as they cannot cope with the strains of the society and they keep on retroverting.

Alcoholics gladly accept the temporary escape route that alcohol offers and once they are hooked, it becomes extremely difficult to wean them away.

About the Author:

Are you finding reliable Suffolk Treatment Centres? Alcoholism has become a major public health issue around the globe. Within USA, approximately 18 million people are suffering from addiction to alcohol.

Quite a lot of aspects cause people to turn to too much alcohol ingestion and these are by and large emotional. If someone hears such a sentence 'Oh my God, he has befall alcoholic' the principal thing, which comes to mind is that the person might be suffering from a rational or psychosomatic ordeal.

Turning to alcoholism can be situational or habitual depending upon the environment and circumstances a person is living in. The reasons vary from place to place depending upon the social, cultural and religious aspects. The general psychological factors in which all societies can easily fit in include family problems such as a contravened relationship of a couple due to a failure of intimate physical and mental bondage.

Parents' dreadful relationships frequently shape children's mind as parents are the source of motivation in every walk of life. Particularly, for teenagers who see parents fighting and combating all the time and living apart from each other can suffer from many psychological disorders. Such youngsters search for hideouts to flee from their depressive home surroundings and choose alcohol as a means to run away from the bitter reality.

Sometimes it also happens that the behaviour of father or mother or may be both with children is not good. The reason could be bad grades in school, overall habits of the child or his activities and friends. This kind of parents/children relationship has a devastating impact on a child's psychology. Such rancid relationship develops many mental and psychological disorders among children especially in children of 10 to 15 years of age. These children in order to disregard and rebel against their parents and show them their hatred opt for drinking and smoking. In some cases it has also be seen that if both the parents consume alcohol the children follow them by default.

Sometimes a teenager starts drinking just for fun or just to socialise. Even some of them want to explore what alcohol is all about. A male teen's psyche sometimes works in such a manner that they begin to feel that if they start smoking or consuming alcohol or drugs, these activities will make them more mature and more confident. They will be popular among girls around them and have a say among their peers.

The pain and anguish due to the failure of relationships during adolescent and at any point in time leads to a posttraumatic situation that brings such people to start heavy consumption of alcohol. This applies to both men and women. Furthermore, once women who are frayed due to an end or failure of an intimate relationship go for heavy boozing or a physical abuse leaves them at the mercy of alcohol. Similarly, guilt, insecurities, unemployment or loss of job, disappointments, and feelings of shame and fear of humiliation on any kind of loss leads to consumption of alcohol.

Such inhabitants unquestionably necessitate aid as a whole. For that matter, the family unit of the alcoholics ought to be accommodating, sustain them in their bad times, and try to bring them out from such a inundate, which can one day trouble them to catastrophe.

About the Author:

Are you searching reliable Alcohol Rehab Treatment? Sadly, alcoholism almost requires treatment and can be fatal in many cases. With the passage of time, almost unknown to us, the disease progresses and takes us down the slippery slope of alcoholism. There are many, many treatment centers across the United States with their treatment methods varying. They will take the history of the patient into consideration when organizing a treatment program.

Studies show there are a variety of effective methods used when treating alcoholism, like detox, inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, counseling and medication. Each of these methods prove suitable treatment for treating different degrees of alcoholism. Someone who has had a relatively short history with alcoholism may benefit from outpatient treatment, where an individual who has waged battle against this disease for a long period of time may require more intensive inpatient treatment. Therefore it is imperative that an in depth study is conducted by the rehabilitation alcohol treatment center.

Rehabilitation alcohol treatment centers focus on eradicating this awful disease, alcoholism, from their patient's lives with extensive treatment for both short term and long term sufferer's of the disease.

Most treatment centers treat various age groups with differing methods. The methods employed by treatment centers for adults is very different than the methods used for teens.

Most often is the case, the better the rehab center, the more ongoing treatment they will provide. They continue on with therapy and support groups after the patient has recovered.

About the Author:

Can you cure alcoholism? No, but you can darn sure fight it. Alcohol problems arise at different levels of severity, from mild and frustrating to life-threatening. In this stage a person known as 'alcohol dependent'.

Alcoholism can be conquered by various healing programmes and approaches, helping those who are determined to get aid - however no medical healing is obtainable. Abandonment signs include an increased tolerance to alcohol. Determination plays a key role in this regard since alcoholics who are compelled by communal pressure or forced to quit by situation hardly ever succeed in the long run. Remember that changing behaviour, especially becoming an abstainer, is extremely difficult. Be thoughtful and tolerant, but don't accept any liability or guilt for the behaviour of another being.

Though there are many preventive acts for giving up from alcohol, heavy drinkers who make a decision to quit drinking should seek medical aid first. Detoxification treatment should be taken, which includes abstinence from alcohol in a controlled environment and close monitoring of vital signs and any withdrawal symptoms.

A being can refrain from alcoholism by attending a drug treatment programme. It is vital for various reasons, such as the failure to control drinking, alienating friends and family, legal issues, rigorous despair and general unhappiness due to excessive drug or alcohol use. A being enters this programme in order to treat a drug or alcohol addiction difficulty. Alcoholism can be abstained through unrelenting psychotherapy and education. In this way individuals can become able to leave drinking and thus, lead to a dynamic and drug free life.

Cutting down on drinking can be hard sometimes. Help of family and friends can be useful in attaining the objective. If a being has a problem in cutting down, he can go for doctor's aid as medications are obtainable to help make it simpler.

In order to quit drinking, you ought to keep a diary of your drinking. It ought to be written down whenever you drink for three or four weeks. This will aid you in abstaining, or at least lessening, when, where, and how much you drink. In this way, you will get to know the difference between your desired objective and the amount you drink. In addition, keep only a small amount of alcohol, or even no alcohol, at home. This will help decrease enticement.

Learn to say 'no'. You don't have to take a drink just because it's offered to you. Stay away from persons who give you a hard time about not drinking as much as they do. Saying 'no' gets easier the more you do it. Put into practice to refuse drinks respectfully. In addition, stay away from persons who want you to drink more than you desire to. Watch out for persons, times, places or circumstances that encourage you to drink too much. Keep away from temptations!

When you drink, sip your drink slowly. Drink for taste rather than effect. Don't drink on an empty stomach. Reduce the amount of alcohol consumption per hour. Eat food or snacks while drinking. After taking a drink, have a soda, water, or fresh juice etc. High protein and high fat foods like cheese and nuts are particularly good at keeping your blood alcohol content low. Quit unhealthy habit of drinking alcohol instead, you can take lemonade or other fresh juices and stay healthy!

About the Author:

Are you finding reliable alcohol rehabilitation? The most important point when selecting a rehab centre is to determine how good the rehab is. It's not only the capability and responsibility of doctors and psychiatrists that matters; in fact, it's the capability of the entire staff that plays a crucial role in determining how good a certain rehab actually is.

Detoxifying an addict does not take very long. It takes seventy two hours to detoxify an alcohol addict. It's the post detoxification care that takes longer. So, the first thing when selecting a rehab centre is to find out how good the post care facilities are. Is the rehab centre over filled with patients? Do the doctors and especially the psychiatrists give enough time to the patients? What type of therapy methods do they use? Is the staff friendly towards the patient? These are all the questions that need to be asked before selecting a rehab facility.

Another essential question is how much will it cost? Several rehab centres charge plenty and in most cases rehab cure is not covered in health insurance. Therefore the individual has to pay for it himself/herself. There are government sponsored rehab centres, nevertheless they may be over worked. To select the rehab centre, you can explore on the internet, ask around, and can even visit some of the rehab centres nearby your home.

The person going in for rehabilitation ought to feel comfy and have to be cared for in a rehab centre. When the patient goes through detoxification, he or she can have rigorous mood swings. This is where the support staff and the psychiatrists play a vital function. The patient ought to be able to talk to the psychiatrist and be able to have full faith in them. A patient who does not get enough time from the psychiatrist or is put into group therapy will start rejecting the place. Keep in mind, this is a hazardous phase, so a patient must be given full attention during this period or else he/she can totally reject the healing proceedings and may start insisting on leaving the place also. And once out, he or she is going to reject everything and may even go back to consuming alcohol again. The second possibility is that the patient become aggressive and starts rejecting everything.

Selecting the correct rehab centre can be a tough thing. If you are opting for a government sponsored rehab program, then you don't have much variety. Nevertheless if you are opting for a private rehab clinic, then you have a lot of alternatives. The finest way of selecting a rehab centre would be by getting references of rehab clinics.

It's the psychiatric help that plays a key role in a rehab centre. The patient after getting detoxified needs counselling and support. What you don't want is a relapse and this can be avoided by the support and help given by the psychiatrist.

Post rehab care plays a very vital function. You don't desire the patient to go back to their old habits. The cause for the addiction has to be removed. Consequently, no matter how good the rehab centre may be, one time a patient is out of there, the causes that took him or her to alcohol have to be eliminated or changed at all.

When looking for rehab centres, do a thorough research before selecting one. The rehab centre should not be over worked, should have surroundings that are conducive for recovery, and should be a place where the patient are taken care of and not left isolated.

About the Author:

Are you searching reliable addiction rehab? Research Shows AA and 12-Step Programs Fail 95% of Those Seeking Help

By Melanie Solomon

Alcoholics Anonymous hardly sounds like a proven method, says Melanie Solomon, author of a new book showing alternatives to AA for treating alcohol and substance abuse. In fact, it doesnt work for most people.

A recovered pill addict who found AA morally defeating, Solomon wrote her newly released 2nd Edition of AA Not the Only Way, to shed light on alternative methods and treatment programs that work as well or better than AA.

Solomon is quick to give acknowledgment to the tremendous contribution AA has made to those it has helped but suggests the numbers are just too overwhelming not to explore alternatives for those not being served well by 12-step approaches. So when asking the question, "is alcoholics anonymous effective," the answer depends on what your definition of "effective" is.

Only 5% of those who seek AA for help remain in the program after one year, says Solomon, citing an internal AA document that contains data from five surveys conducted from 1977 to 1989. The numbers show:

81% of AA attendees are gone after one month

90% are no longer present after three months

93% retreat by six months

95% abandoned the program after one year

In fact, 45% of those who attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings never come back after their first session.

"93-97% of conventional drug and alcohol treatment centers are 12-step or AA-based, so those who have departed AA to look somewhere else for advise, are essentially rejoining AA," notes Solomon.

She found herself seeking help from AA while attending law school, attending the required 90 meetings in 90 days and found that saying she is an alcoholic over and over is a negative affirmation bringing about only negative consequences.

"They sought to convince me I was the victim of an incurable, progressive and fatal disease, that following their program was the only solution, and that I must give up my own thinking to a Higher Power," she adds. "But I ended up feeling worse and worse, and my self-esteem kept getting lower and lower."

She went through twelve years of the vicious cycle of rehabs, sober livings, AA meetings, and relapses. She has found alternative methods that have been beneficial for her health, and now, at age 36, she finally feels free.

Some surveys and studies make known the most practical way to heal is actually through self-cure, rather than a program. Although a Harvard project shows only 20% of all alcoholics kick the habit for good, of those that do get better as many as 77-82% did it on their own without the use of a formal program.

One-size-fits-all treatment is not possible, Solomon says. Treatments must be as diverse as the people seeking it. But that said, AA works for some people--maybe 5%. Certainly it is not for everyone.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse seems to agree, stating "No single treatment program is right for everybody. Matching the treatment program to each individual's needs is critical to success."

"It is finally time to stop living in the dark ages of recovery, educate people about all of their options that are out there. Maybe we will start making a dent in the alcohol and substance abuse problem that millions are facing each day instead of continuing to prolong it," says Solomon.

Leading U.S. addiction expert Dr. Marc Kern states, "I have long awaited this directory of addiction treatment alternatives. It represents what I believe to be the future of the field. It is a pioneering effort to organize this unique body of knowledge. A directory of this type was never available before."

Dr. Frederick Rotgers, another leading addiction expert explains, "The problem is finding treatment providers who provide these alternative, evidence-based approaches. Melanie Solomon has taken a wonderful step toward making that process, of identifying alternatives to traditional treatments, easier.

About the Author:

To obtain your FREE article on how you'll get the most effective treatment, go to http://www.aanottheonlyway.com/special-reports/specialreports.php. There are special types of alcoholism treatments accessible nowadays but still deciding as regards to which one is the supreme is not that trouble-free. The category of treatment that an addict will need to go through depends on the level of addiction.

The first step in treating alcohol addiction is to go through pre-treatment care. In this, the associates plus relatives of the addict are essential to offer their inputs regarding the alcohol addict. Subsequent to that, the psychologist tries to determine the level or stage of the addiction, and tries moreover find out the reason for the addiction. After these meetings, the psychologist meets the alcohol addict and then in conclusion decides and determines the type of treatment that will suit the addict.

Inpatient treatment is carried out where the height of addiction is severe and can possibly lead to other physical tribulations. Also, earlier than starting the detoxification, the doctors also have to establish that the addict is not allergic to any medication that will be prescribed. The doctors also determine the anticipated time required for detoxifying the addict along with for the post care healing. If the addiction is lengthened or severe, the detoxification program is extended.

Out patient treatment is prepared in cases where the addict does not have a grave case of alcohol addiction, or has been through in-house detoxification and is at the present recovering. In out patient treatment, the addict is given medication to end a relapse from occurring. Therapy, either individually or as group therapy is conducted. Addicts who have comparable symptoms are made to talk about their individual methods of revival with each other.

Drug therapy is another way of treating alcoholism. The addict is given a drug that does not stop the craving for alcohol, but when an addict takes alcohol he/she becomes so sick that he/she automatically abstains from alcohol. There are some medications that lessen the craving for drink. The type of drug therapy is determined by the therapist after he/she has determined which drug therapy is most suitable for the respective patient.

Cognitive behavioural therapy is a planned system of treating alcoholism. In this, an addict is also given training and is made to change their advance towards drinking. Drugs may be used to help the patient to relax and to keep their mind engaged. They are assigned responsibilities which they have to full, and also they have to stay and complete the therapy course.

Therapeutic community management is an additional manner of ensuring that formerly someone has given up their compulsion, they will stay away from the bottle. In this, the doctors congregate their patients often and help addicts to give up on drinking; they are given tasks to make them feel useful and a part of society. Making a transition from an outcast to an important member of society is what is done in therapeutic community treatment.

There are supplementary treatment programs also available, and also there are special alcohol treatment methods for adolescents. All these work to try and get a person to stop drinking and not go into a relapse. Alcohol addiction has to be treated like a disease, and a lot of effort is required to make a person to give up on the habit of drinking.

About the Author:

Are you looking for reliable alcoholism rehab center? Taking one or two drink per day for men, and one drink per day for women is not a health risk, and is therefore not called alcoholism. However, taking alcohol in more quantities than this, and having it influence the standard or quality of life are symptoms of alcoholism.

Alcoholism takes years to develop, and there are three stages, an alcoholic goes through, while getting addicted to alcohol. The stages are early stage, middle stage, and end stage alcoholism also known as late stage.

The first period recognised as Early Period is when people commence relying on alcohol to facilitate with their mood. They think that if they are worried, they can drink alcohol and they will be able to forget their worries and be joyful. This way, they start relying on it and soon start thinking about alcohol every time they get worried over something. Since the body gets used to consume more and more alcohol, it starts requiring even more to help fine-tune the mood every time. This way, the person ends up drinking a lot of alcohol without even seeming to be drunk.

In this period, the body is able to familiarise itself to the alcohol levels as they amplify. Consequently, if a person is in this period, his body systems won't be affected by alcohol. He will converse and work alright even when he is drinking heavily. As the periods progress, nonetheless, the body loses its ability to metabolise the alcohol and starts showing deterioration.

In the Middle Phase, the person starts drinking even more, and is even found drinking in the middle of the day also. At this phase, the body begins to get worse and can't handle the large amounts of alcohol, so the tolerance for alcohol reduces and he seems to be drunk. In addition, in this phase, the person undergoes withdrawal indications if he quits drinking or stops drinking for a while.

In this period, the person may know he has a drinking trouble and it will be perceptible to others too. Nonetheless, the patient can now not judge how much alcohol his body can manage, thus he experiences more issues like stomach issues, blackouts, and hangovers. He will also refuse to individuals who are troubled that he has a predicament. In the End Period, the body depreciates so much that the mental form of the alcoholic also becomes affected. In this period, the parts of the body start getting hurt, specifically the liver, and the person may find that his relation with associates and family have fallen apart, hence leaving him alone.

The body is not capable of properly digesting the food it is receiving owing to the alcohol and the individual may lose weight. How can we tell whether you are an alcoholic or not? Which is the best Time for Alcohol Healing? How can we know if you really need alcohol healing? The answer to all these questions is a simple test; take away the alcohol and you'll quickly find out as to who is just having fun and who has got a larger than life problem.

Alcoholism is a disease. It may even lead you to death wither by a liver failure or by an accident which you may come across while driving drunk. It not only ruins the lives of those who suffer from it, but it also destroys the families to which the addict belongs to. The addicts usually totally forget about their responsibilities. Because alcohol addiction is a disease, those who are afflicted can not truly be held responsible for the havoc they wreak on their jobs or personal lives.

This calamitous difficulty can be the channel for one of life's most heinous downward spirals. The only true way to stop this is through acquaintance, understanding, and the accurate dealing. Females with alcoholism are more liable to have a record of physical or sexual abuse, assault, or marital violence.

So, what is the next step? This is the question which millions of Americans ask themselves every day. Too many times, the people who need help the most don't get it. Is it wrong to think that a problem with alcohol addiction will just blow away? Is it possible that somewhere down the line things will just rectify themselves and go back to normal? We seem to think that ignoring a problem might make it go away, but it is actually so not the case.

It is also a fact that there is no better answer to alcohol abuse than alcohol cure. Addiction is not a behavioural problem; it is, in truth, an illness. Once a person is addicted, negative response skills or willpower gets feeble, and consumer becomes approximately a response.

The first step is to realize that you have an alcohol problem, which is quite excellent and is also the first step towards recuperation.

Alcohol healing is not an easy task. Given that an alcohol addiction consumes much an addict's life, they normally are in a great amount of stress from trying to balance their every day tasks and also this ailment.

The first step towards healing is to know that you have an issue. When this is done, the addicts should, just like others find an alcohol healing centre. A matter that normally comes to their mind is, how do I know which alcohol rehab program is right? For many years, specialists have compared alcoholism or its addiction to a physical disease such as diabetes. In reality, addictions are more closely related to a neurological disorder as diabetes.

If the trouble which the patients undergo from arises from relentless alcoholism or addiction, then they must acknowledge that these problems are not just cerebral or free will issues. The problems faced by addicts, alcoholics, and their families often make them completely discouraging.

To envisage that an addict can alter if he/she wants to is a awfully serious quarrel of the long -term dynamic of the addiction. The assertion is that an addict cannot vary even if he/she wants to, and that's why the definition of addiction is characterised by the loss of control over the use of a substance. It is very imperative to understand that this thrashing of control is manifested not in terms of days or weeks, but in even longer terms such as months and years.

An addict or an alcoholic suffers from extremely harsh disease. Addictions are not regarding determination. He/she must take the matter very critically. A quick 7 day detoxification will never be the explanation. The alcoholic in the longer term is like somebody who has become habituated to choose cocaine over food, so and in the short term; he/she cannot control the neurological impulse to abstain from the drug. He/she will obviously continue to seek it, in that way ignoring food and water. The alcoholic cannot control these spontaneous irresistible neurological impulses to drink.

If the question is, is alcohol addiction an illness? Then the response would be, yes. Alcoholism is a self-contracted neurological disease. It is disarray that is shaped. It is also a physical problem on a neurological level, and very authentic.

As said by an organisation that deals with alcoholism, the alcoholic addict is obliged to come to understand the primary condition of the disease, which is always unarmed against taking the "first one". No matter how much clean days or time you grow, you will forever remains defenceless against using it again. It is also seen that the alcoholic would, at some time, perhaps for no imperative reason, will start again. The only method to abstain from drug addiction is a strong will power.

For this addiction, as a minimum 10 weeks of moderation is required to hold back the sturdy neurological impulses to utilize alcohol. After a bare minimum of ten week neurological detoxification, the reoccurring compulsion to use the chemical can be everlastingly calmed. This is accomplished through a technique called neurological "re-wiring".

The alcohol addicts have got to stop thinking that they can somehow permanently stay clean on their own. A deep-seated chance or dependency shift can come from within the addicts own heart and mind. He must psychologically shift away from relying on the legality of his own thought process. By mentally shifting what he/she relies upon, his/her nervous organism undergoes a great change.

About the Author:

Are you finding reliable Alcohol Rehab Treatment? Early and dynamic awareness may help avoid these dilemmas since mythology is the problem itself and not merely the alcohol.

Misuse or over use of alcohol can show us the way towards the development of an on-going and irreparable condition that can possible lead to an incurable "disease" for which recovery is a very difficult undertaking and considering the thought that this condition is far worst than getting drunk, is an idea that often misleads most of us.

The inclusion of either moderation or real recovery in the "assessments" used is not something that they considering making this situation a more confusing scheme since it only present a treatment that is limited to the one-size-fits-all strategy. Regardless of the studies, we all know that it is still based on experiences of the way people deal with their alcohol use which is also similar to the way they give attention to smoking, weight loss, and their many other irritating dilemmas.

The maximum limit which is considered safe and healthy differ between an adult man and a woman and they are two drinks of distilled spirits, two bottles of beer, or one half bottle of wine per day and half that for men and women respectively. These amounts confer the most health benefits without any associated detrimental effects. Though it can be possible that you will devour into more alcohol than you can manage whenever you will find yourself trapped in a social gathering or event, your average consumption should still be limited to the recommended restrictions.

It is normally seen that both the symptoms appear together but any one on its own is some thing to be concerned about. Frequent contributing factors include loneliness, exhaustion, and a paucity of peers or activities. Arbitration is the normal practice at this stage with the aim to bring down the consumption level to healthy limits but counseling advice could cull out the real reasons behind this condition and can help restore normalcy.

While restoration of normal and healthy drinking habit is the usual practice, but complete cessation from drinking for at least one or two years is highly recommended. By this means, many people chose not to go back to their old bad habits of drinking or even waved goodbye to drinking as they have found the satisfaction of living a successfully modified life.

In the process of alcohol abandonment, certain withdrawal symptoms can be observed such as tremors and seizures in the physical aspect, blackouts on the psychological side and some part of our lives such as financial, legal, vocational, marital, recreational, social and medical will also tend to experience alcohol-related breakdowns. The number of alcoholics that returned to their moderate level of drinking were found to comprise a third of those that have been diagnosed, however, this is not as appealing as it appears to be.

At this stage both medical and counseling help is usually necessary given the physical, social, emotional, and psychological aspects. Even though chances are slim when it comes to recovery and results may vary from one person to another, still, hopelessness should never be allowed since the main driving forces towards achieving the desired results are proper motivation and the effectiveness of one's determination.

The healthy and moderate consumption levels of alcohol are never hard to achieve again even if such person tends go beyond the normal alcohol consumption and had been a dependent to it. More than 58 percent of U.S. adults with alcohol addiction (alcoholism) that began more than one year ago were able to moderate their use by a year later (according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism).

You should be informed that therapies with just a single option and think that their program will work for everybody regardless of their diverse condition is something that should not appeal to you especially if you have found yourself needing it or anybody in the family or circle of friends since you can resort to those treatments offering a variety of options. Since you would never agree to any universal therapy regimen for a fatal disease like cancer which is applied to any and every type and stage of the disease, there is no question of accepting a similar concept when you are seeking medical help for a condition like alcohol abuse which does not even fall under the category of a disease.

About the Author:

You can visit: quick and easy diabetic recipes and diabetic pumpkin pie recipes for more reviewed information.

Early Warning Signs of Drug Addiction and Alcoholism to Help You Get Them Early

By Carl-Peter

Drug Addiction and alcoholism are two of the most dangerous and devastating illnesses out there. The first thing that has to be considered regarding rehabilitation is the classification of an alcoholic. This denotes that it has to be made sure that someone is really an alcoholic. Someone who wants a few glasses of drink sporadically doesn't inevitably make them an alcoholic or require them to undertake rehabilitation.

Alcoholism is in fact a sickness which spoils not only the physical organs of the alcoholic, but also the person as well as his/her family. The greatest indication of being alcoholic is that, when alcohol is taken away from the person, he/she starts undergoing grave behavioural changes. People who suffer from alcoholism are not very probable to control the chaos that is created in their own attitude and others' lives because of them.

In case of the above mentioned circumstances, it becomes essential for the person to go through alcohol rehabilitation. Nevertheless, like every other sickness, alcoholism can also be healed provided the correct type of treatment and rehabilitation is done at the right time and in the correct way. The first thing that is significant in alcohol rehabilitation is the knowledge and the understanding regarding the healing of the alcoholic.

This is the very first and foremost step towards starting the rehabilitation. The next important thing is to change ones' perception about rehabilitation. Many people know that they have a problem and they still think that they would be able to deal with it themselves, and hence don't need to go through rehabilitation. This perception is wrong, and it is vital to understand that treatment is necessary if you really want to get rid of alcoholism.

Going through alcohol rehabilitation is not a trifling considering that you have to be under pressure and anxiety. The way different people feel during rehabilitation is unlike, and the way one individual acts would be poles apart from the way others do. While it may not be a trifling to go through rehabilitation, it is also not impractical.

The choice of the right rehabilitation centre is an important matter when it comes to your alcohol rehabilitation. The rehabilitation centre that you select may also depend upon the treatment you may need. You should look for a rehabilitation centre that offers an individualised treatment program, and which guarantees complete privacy and confidentiality. This is important if you want to obtain sobriety to the maximum.

The pick of rehabilitation depends completely on you. Nevertheless, the better the centre, the better and quicker would be the odds of your healing. This is because during rehabilitation, you pass different levels, which have different types of effects on people's frame of mind and actions. Consequently, it is significant that you ought to have complete support during all the phases of rehabilitation.

It is important for you to not be ashamed of going through rehabilitation. This is very important for the maintenance of self-esteem. Rehabilitation is like any other medical treatment and helps you deal with alcoholism, which is like any other illness.

About the Author:

Are you looking for reliable alcohol detox? Sad to say, the long duration of alcohol association can pilot the way to more problems, reality and mythically speaking.

Most of us have been mislead into believing that the misuse, or over use, of alcohol is a progressive and irreversible condition leading - a terminal "disease" for which there is only demeaning and unending recovery, a condition many understandably consider worse than being a drunk.

The inclusion of either moderation or real recovery in the "assessments" used is not something that they considering making this situation a more confusing scheme since it only present a treatment that is limited to the one-size-fits-all strategy. Whatever research may say, we know from our real-life experience that people do keep on altering their patterns of alcohol use just the way they do with other persistent problems like smoking, weight loss, etc.

It has been said that the considerable amount of a healthy alcohol consumption for an adult man are as follows: two drinks of distilled spirits, two bottles of beer, or one half bottle of wine per day; and half of this intake should be enough for adult women. These set limits would benefit the drinker in terms of health without the destructive effects of alcohol touching him or her. For instance, it is possible that one may land up drinking a bit too much during any special social function but on an average one should restrict his consumption within the set guidelines.

If you have concerns about your own situation, or that of a loved one or friend, look for help where options exist, not where a single "program" is inflicted on everyone regardless of their condition. As much as possible, don't ever indulge yourself or let anybody you know be a victim of treatments offering a single option since they cater to your condition which is not even considered a disease just like the way they homogeneously treat deadly diseases such as cancer in every types and stages.

About the Author:

Free diabetic recipes diabetes offers more accurate information, check out this link: diabetic pumpkin pie recipes.

Alcoholism And Its Influence On Your Kids

By James Handforth

Alcoholism is an awfully serious dilemma upsetting not only the alcoholic, but also persons around him or her. The people influenced the most are the kids of alcoholics who were born whilst their parents were alcoholics and also those who were adults and had to deal with it.

Prior to the child's birth, a parent's alcoholism can have poisonous affects on him. A foetus of an alcoholic mother will begin experiencing troubles. Babies can be born with Foetal Alcohol disease, which is one of the three top causes of birth defects in children. The more the mother drinks through pregnancy, the worse the consequences will be, with deformities of the brain, skull, eyes, or even limbs. These children have difficulty in development, learning, memory, and even social skills. They are typically hyperactive and badly coordinated with speech and hearing.

Children who are normal as well have inconvenience if their parents are alcoholics. Such children can have low self-esteem, feeling of aloneness or shame, may experience helplessness, may be fearful of being deserted, or may suffer from dejection. They may feel that they are the reason of their parents being an alcoholic and become stressed because of this. They will usually have nightmares, and may have problems making friends and doing well in school. Older children may show signs of wretchedness like neurotic compulsive disorder, staying alone, or being self-conscious.

These children will also have inconvenience at school. They will have problems expressing themselves and may also have trouble in making friends or building bonds with instructors. They are expected to drop out of school. They might be irrational liars, cheaters, fighters, robbers, or even skip school at times. They feel culpable regarding letting their parent drink and will struggle to find ways to make their parents give up on alcohol by hiding the alcohol from their parents, or by performing well in school or at work to convince their parent on giving up.

It is also frequent to find children of alcoholics being harmed or injured because alcoholics are more expected to thrash or neglect their kids. Because of the suffering, these children tolerate at a young age, they are likely to be converted into alcoholics or drug addicts at a later point in their lives themselves. They will also often not tell anyone of the distress they are going through at home since they feel they can help their parents themselves.

These children grow up and become parents who have issues with parenting and are terrible at it. They remain disheartened and have inconvenience forming relations. They may get captivated to stuff other than alcohol as well.

These children also have higher rates of eating disorders as they frequently attempt to manage all facets of their life, as they can't control their parents. Their feelings of low self-esteem and guilt time and again drive them into bulimic and anorexic tendencies.

Children of alcoholics bear numerous emotional scars that can spoil their whole life if they are not treated through therapy sessions where they are prepared to speak in relation to their experiences.

About the Author:

Are you searching reliable alcohol rehabilitation? Here is another of these that can toil as guided course on rehabilitation of alcohol addicts. You may need to help somebody very close to you or somebody you know through some proposal against addiction to alcohol. This article can aid you in devising the guidelines for their help.

First of all, it is advised that any alcohol addict should not try to discontinue drinking on his own. In fact, this is rather unsafe and can be possibly fatal if you do not detoxify yourself properly. Therefore, you should always consult the drug or alcohol rehab centre where proper instructors and skilled staff will help you in the gradual discontinuation of alcohol or drug.

The next major feature, which is of vital significance is the strength of your decision for quitting alcohol and going through the rehab program. It is strongly recommended that if you are not serious about quitting alcohol then you should not go for this treatment or rehab course.

This cure is expensive and cannot be carried out without your 100% approval for assistance. Furthermore, the achievement of the healing depends upon your determination to change your life and the determination to lead it without the curse of alcohol. Moreover, you are surely required to surrender yourself when you are in the drug rehab centre for your treatment.

This cure begins with an orientation regarding the precarious aspects of alcohol intake. You are required to rationalise honestly the reasons regarding why you started intense alcohol beyond the safe level. When you are truly influenced about the flawed doings in your case, you will be geared up for the treatment.

The cure can make you a better individual once again. You are shown the aspects and features of a decent life. A brand new and elated life without the nuisance of alcohol can be yours if you cooperate. You do not rationalise getting yourself killed with this useless addiction. You deserve a better life, and you should put every effort to make it right.

The next thing you will come across at rehab or treatment centre is another type of group of people who have successfully got rid of this addiction. You will get a chance to know the difference they feel without alcohol in their life and the reasons why they started alcoholism. You may find some of them describing the similar conditions matching to yours, and you will be encouraged by the possibility of getting treatment like them.

You can imagine your life as directive to the latest addicts and telling them how you got revival from the addiction. Another advantage of the proper rehab centre is that they also treat you psychologically and they try to restore your self-belief and self-esteem. The counselling will help you put yourself together and regain the self-image, which you previously held while you were not an addict. These are only the points that can hearten you to go for the cure at the drug rehabilitation centre.

About the Author:

Are you searching reliable alcohol clinic? But then there is always that guy that has a few too many drinks. College students are known for binge drinking. For binge drinkers and excessive users they are putting their bodies and lives at risk.

The social and emotional damage alcohol can do can be dramatic. Alcohol is a depressant and often causes more problems for the abuser. Many people are killed each year from excessive use of alcohol. And the physical damage caused to your body can be irreversible.

Your weight, age, sex and meal consumption can all play part in how alcohol effects each person. Not everyone has the same effect even if they drank the same amount. Alcohol enters the bloodstream via the stomach and is then absorbed by all of the tissue in your body.

The mild and moderate effects of alcohol are usually seen more socially. Yu may become less inhibited talking more or louder. You may also get a little dizzy, what many call a buzz. Excessive use is more physical. Slurred speech, impaired physical ability, vomiting and sleep disturbance.

After a night of drinking you could wake up with an ol fashion hangover. A hangover is the pesky results of a night of alcohol consumption. It can cause nausea, headache, fatigue, achy muscles and dehydration symptoms such as excessive thirst.

There are some pretty serious withdraw symptoms when an abuser stops taking their drug, alcohol included. Some of the milder withdraws would be tremors and anxiety issues. Some more severe are hallucinations and even convulsions.

For those who have abused alcohol for prolonged periods of time they could be doing irreversible damage to vital organs such as the brain and the liver. Drinking while pregnant can cause fetal alcohol syndrome. Fetal Alcohol syndrome can cause mental retardation and physical deformations.

Some people that are at risk for abusing, such as those already under emotional stress should not drink. By knowing the facts about drinking alcohol I hope you can make good decisions about consumption. Be aware if you are at risk.

About the Author:

Broker Jeff Cline is committed to helping you find health insurance that most people can afford and use. Find out More

By C-P

The seriousness and severity of alcoholism and drug addiction are massively underestimated - because do enough people understand their dangers and the damage that they can cause?

Here then are a few drug addiction and alcoholism facts that will hopefully help a few more of us become aware of the devastation that they can cause. Drugs and alcohol can not only destroy and take innocent lives, but devastate communities and families.

1) Alcohol is responsible for around 50% of deaths on our roads

2) Drug and alcohol abuse is a major factor in the premature death and unnecessary injury of young men and women.

3) Violent and aggressive behaviour caused by alcohol is said to account for approximately 50% of murders and 52% of rapes.

4) Around 90% of street muggings and property theft are made by addicts to support their addiction.

5) Approximately 20 million people over the age of 12 use drugs in the US and around 20,000 people die each year from their addiction

I've just briefly mentioned a few drug and alcohol related facts and statistics - but the message is hopefully loud and clear. So I just don't get how we still live in a binge drinking culture where alcohol abuse is glamorised and regarded as cool/socially acceptable. You could half understand it if it were just teenagers going on about their drinking exploits - but adults are even worse. I just don't think the message of the dangers and damage that alcohol can cause gets through to enough people.

And why isn't more being done to eliminate the drug dealers, who take advantage of the vulnerable and young in our communities? It's just plain cowardice targeting youngsters, especially because they are the most vulnerable, with drugs like heroin.

I fear things are just going to get worse - because what can we really do? Prevention is the only real answer, but until attitudes change towards alcohol abuse and those that infiltrate our streets with drugs are dealt with, we'll always be too far behind, constantly trying to play catch up.

And the addiction and alcoholism statistics I've shared with you will no doubt be constantly changing and on the increase because the problem of substance and alcohol abuse is only getting worse. So we need to each do our bit and spread the word to the dangers and damage that alcohol abuse and drugs cause. There are just too many lives at stake ...

About the Author:

The whole Alcoholism Disease concept is a hotly debated topic - so be sure to discover CP's thoughts on that. The idea of drinking in moderation or just socially seem to be distinct possibilities but just the thought of being able a have a least one more drink will make giving up even more appealing.

The fact of the matter is that there are alcoholics that may have been in rehab and later been able to even do that, but we can't really be 100% certain that those people were actually alcoholics in the beginning, as they may just have abused alcohol or were just binge drinkers.

If you were to ask a real alcoholic whether they thought they were capable of just having the odd drink and they were honest, they would almost certainly say that it would be just impossible.

It takes a lot for an alcoholic to even try to have the odd drink and I have heard several stories from people who have and then regretted it later. One guy in his forties who had been dry since his teens decided to start again thinking he was ready, but only ended up getting back his previous bad habits and has not since been able to get dry.

I also heard of a female alcohol that managed to stop drinking alcohol due to her pregnancy. She was so happy with herself and she had a beautiful baby girl. Her husband brought out a bottle of champagne on her home coming to celebrate the special occasion, but from that moment on their happiness disappeared as quickly as it arrived.

These stories can be heard almost every where, as alcoholism is all around us although we may not be aware of it. The society at large though makes so much from alcohol revenues so that won't want to situation to change for a long time, so alcoholics need to get independent health advice from other alcoholics and reform groups who only have one mission left in life, which is to give support to other alcoholics.

You can get stop drinking advice on the Internet, with expert advice from other people who either are alcoholics or live with them, so you can get the advice you need. Giving up alcohol is just a matter of taking the right decision and not feeling alone with the nightmare ahead, so make sure you find the very best in alcoholic health care.

in the united states of america, there are from 11 to 15 million persons addicted to alcohol. the big problem of alcoholism affects the individual, and ruins his life and others. it also affects his health, happiness, personal safety, life span, and their family relationships.

booze can take its toll in many ways. approximately half of the traffic deaths each year are caused by a drunk driver or a pedestrian who had been drinking. at any time, one-half of those in our jails have been booked on drinking-related charges. one-third of the homicides in america are linked to alcohol abuse, and of all suicides reported, about one-fourth are alcohol-related.

in the busy word of business there are billions of dollars spent each year because of alcoholism. about one-half of usa's alcoholics are employed and lose about two or three times more workdays per year than the average employee does. these workers have about three times more of the off-job accidents than other employees do. they affect the morale and efficiency around them.

contrary to what most people think, the main majority of alcoholics are not bums. only five percent of all serious problem drinkers would fall into this area. instead, the problem drinker lives among us. he is able to live and work, but not as effectively and successfully as he could if he were not suffering from alcoholism.

these alcoholics are your co-workers, the housewives in your neighborhood, your friends, or maybe even someone you love. in this country, there are more male alcoholics than female alcoholics.

the effects of licquor on a person happen in a couple stages. in the first stage, it affects his judgement and self-control. the second stage affects, memory, speech, physical reflexes, and thinking are affected.

the third stage can cause a coma or put them in daze. excessive use of alcohol over a long period can result in malnutrition and damage to the body organs, especially the liver and brain. d.t.'s, or the shakes, can occur as the result of damage to the nervous systems.

there is no "one cause" of alcoholism. people seem to use alcohol to get away from something, to relieve anixety, or to help them face their problems. licquor is also used to cover up feelings of insecurity or guilt.

in the early stages of alcoholism it is hard to spot a part time drinker from a hardcore drinker, but there are some clues. these may include things such as promises to quit drinking; frequent drinking to relieve tension; increased tolerance to alcohol; and, changes in personality.

during the middle state, the problem drinker tries to hide his drinking, and drinking in the morning is more apt to occur. also the signs of drinking are more noticeable, especially at work. the person finds it harder to feel right, or "high", regardless of how much he drinks.

the person now drinks daily out of necessity. once in the final stages of alcoholism, loneliness, isolation, and distress set in. the problem drinker lives to drink, neglects his health, and suffers personality changes. they are tense, irritable and booze becomes the most important thing in their life.

their health will hit rock bottom, and physical weakness is brought on by their abuse of alcohol and the malnutrition that goes with it. the only real solution to alcoholism is for the alcoholic to totally quit drinking and never drink again!

alcoholism is considered a medical problem, and the american medical association urges hospitals to accept alcoholic patients. also, seeking treatment to help the alcoholic re-create his life without the use of alcohol is strongly recommended. restoring the health of the alcoholic is the first step. the second and most difficult step involves the revitalization and well being of the total person. this takes much longer.

we are dealing with a major problem--one that shows signs of steadily increasing. this disease of alcoholism is treatable and will yield to our efforts to control it. before it's too late, we, as a nation, should work together in not only controlling alcoholism, but in preventing it as well.

Even while all the signals say that alcohol is at the root of major life troubles. Cravings for alcohol and an inability to restrict or stop the flow of alcohol are both trademarks of a drinking problem. These are signs that the individual is in all likelihood suffering from a disease called alcoholism. A disease that's chronic in nature and one that can have severe wellness, financial and relationship consequences.

There is typically denial on the part of the drinker that a true problem exists regarding alcohol and health issues. Or issues that include financial problems or relationship issues. All these problems may stem from the drinking habits. Anyone with a disease that impairs thinking is going to make bad decisions. Or they may try to cover up the problem out of embarrassment or for other reasons. They may try to fight against getting help if doing so means doing without the thing they crave the most - alcohol. A person may actually want to stop drinking or at least has a desire to limit the consumption. But they are unable to do so without help. If this person is a male, there is a higher probability that there will be a lag time between when he realizes he needs help and when he will admit the idea that he must actively accept help. This is not unlike other scenarios when it comes to admitting that there may be a "disease" involved. Although it is more common in males to have a difficult time going for medical help, female drinkers can also have difficulty coming to terms with the facts. The fact that they may have a disease when it comes to alcohol consumption. Alcoholism involves a drug and the drug is alcohol. This is a very addictive drug and addictions can be very difficult to beat.

Individuals that associate with the drinker may find it far easier to blame the drinker for the problems that arise as a result of the drinking instead of being able to have compassion for a person suffering from a disease. If a person has physical symptoms like paralysis or an amputee it becomes easier to see why the individual is in need of medical intervention and healing. When the disease requires a little more investigative work in order to connect the health consequences or signs and symptoms of the disease then those who are in contact with the person suffering from alcoholism must look beyond the raised glass in order to see and understand the disease.

Alcoholism treatment begins with recognizing the signs and symptoms, getting past the denial stage, and realizing that the truth must be told in order to accept medical treatment and psychological counseling which are the usual combination that is involved when treating the individual with alcoholism.

Signs and symptoms of alcoholism:

Strong Cravings for alcohol that cannot be denied

A strong need to drink at specific times or after certain events (like after dinner)

The experiences of needing to drink more alcohol than previously in order to achieve the same level of intoxication that brings with it a sense of "normalcy" or "good feeling". This is called tolerance.

The ability to consume large quantities of alcohol rapidly without appearing to be intoxicated

Having "blackouts" in which the individual is unable to remember conversations or commitments made while drinking

A loss of interest in activities or hobbies that typically was important to the individual prior to the increase in alcohol consumption.

About the Author:

To get more information about the disease of alcoholism visit http://alcoholismfactsandsymptoms.com/

Tips for Helping you Deal with Drug and Alcohol Abuse

By C-P

Suffering from alcoholism or drug addiction is horrible - I know, because I've been there. The shame, the guilt, the confusion - you sometimes feel dirty in a weird kind of way, almost semi-human - and this can leave you feeling terribly lonely, isolated and misunderstood.

One of the things that makes it especially hard dealing with drug addiction or alcoholism, is that even though medically addiction is now generally regarded as a disease, a lot of people don't accept that or see it that way. It's not like coming out with a disease like cancer say, where you'll be embraced, encouraged and supported by almost everyone.

If you admit to drug addiction or alcoholism - a lot of people will still think you're weak, can't cope, are obviously troubled - and basically just inferior to themselves. That's why I think so many addicts and alcoholics live in denial for so long to the extent of their problem - it would be admitting to themselves they're just not 'up to it' as people.

You convince yourself then that your alcohol abuse and drug abuse is totally under control and manageable - because doing otherwise will almost be like admitting you're a failure and you're also convinced that's how you would be perceived if you did so. There is without doubt a certain stigma attached to being labelled an addict - and avoiding that truth protects you, at least in your own mind.

So knowing where you can turn to for help, what you're dealing with, and what your options are, is really critical. Plus worrying about people finding out isn't an issue because there is excellent support and help available out there where your privacy and dignity will be totally safe-guarded.

As with any disease or illness - the worst possible thing you could do - is to do nothing at all. Because the longer you leave an addiction, the worse it will get. And it's a fact that applies to you whether you're sitting there reading this as the person who has the drug/alcohol problem - or whether you're a family member or friend of one.

You may even only think that at this stage you're only dealing with the problem of alcohol abuse or drug abuse - rather than fully developed alcoholism or drug addiction - and that the problem is still under control. Don't be fooled because often it's already far worse than you think.

So please - even if you're not sure that you or someone you love suffers from alcoholism or drug addiction - be sure to research and educate yourself as to what you're dealing with and the help available out there. Physicians associate cancers with alcoholism they also see many examples of disease related to alcoholism including alcohol-related cirrhosis, cardiomyopathy, gastrointestinal bleeding and pancreatitis. What more, even those who didn't actually put the alcohol to their lips suffer the consequences of alcoholism including innocents that suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome, which is a leading cause of mental retardation. There are other serious consequences of alcoholism including the traffic accidents that drinking and driving cause, depression and dementia suffered by those with the disease, suicide, and homicide linked to alcoholism and the risk to children of alcoholic parents that they too might suffer someday the same illness.

Do you understand that alcoholism has an affect on every organ in the body? Large doses of alcohol often cause coma and death. Individuals with long-term alcoholism are sometimes prone to experience withdrawal syndrome and brain excitability. Other symptoms of the disease include alcohol ingestion, which then leads to cell death and cerebellar degeneration, alcoholic hallucinosis, delirium tremors, and withdrawal seizures.

At risk are those with a family history of alcoholism, those in lower income brackets and those who do not have higher educational achievements. The World Health Organization found that at risk for mental disorders were those who had alcohol dependence.

Alcoholism according to statistics is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. with 85,000 deaths being linked to alcoholism each year in the United States. Another statistic shows that a large percentage of global disease is linked to alcoholism including 7% of breast cancer, 32% of all cirrhosis, 10% of hemorrhagic strokes, 19% of mouth and oropharyngeal cancers, and 25% of liver cancer.

Statistically, reported by the U.S. National Comorbidity Survey and the Epidemiologic Catchment Area Survey, alcoholism in African Americans is greater than it is for those who are Americans and Caucasian. Others that have higher risk are those who are Hispanic Americans, Native American or Asian American. Alcohol addiction is also twice as likely to occur in males than females.

In spite of the acknowledged danger of alcohol addiction and how common the disease is, medical doctors often do not make the correct diagnosis of alcohol addiction. This may have happened in as many as 50% of the cases. Patients can make diagnosing alcoholism difficult by denying they have a problem when asked. Their fear of loosing a job if employer finds out about a diagnosis of alcoholism or they may be to asamed admit they have a problem with alcohol. These are normal reasons of not being truthful.

Sometimes the diagnosis is missed because medical professionals may be unaware of the proper way to screen for and to diagnose alcoholism. It is difficult to have accurate testing to make a diagnosis of alcoholism because blood tests and liver function tests as well as mean corpuscular volume are not always effective. Even the gamma glutamyl transferrin levels test are only 50% accurate.

About the Author:

To find out more about the disease of a alcoholism, visit Alcohol Facts and Symptoms.

Tell Me About Alcoholism and the Twelve Steps

By Dave Owen

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a twelve-step plan for those hurting from alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction. Anyone with the disease alcoholism can benefit from the twelve step program because it presents a plan for making the disease manageable. It will help one understand the reality of the disease that they have. A disease that they will have for life. Yes, alcoholism is a degenerative disease. There is no cure and it is essential for the individual to learn how to live with the disease. If they do not, it can and will end the life they have. The method of recovery from your disease begins with the admission that you are powerless over alcohol. That you have a disease and that you can overcome the consequences by following the twelve steps.

Although the AA twelve step program is not the only treatment program available it is a program that is often recommended to complement other programs. It is also a well-known program so there is an instant feeling of confidence.

When you first begin the 12 step program at AA, you are required to humble yourself and admit to yourself and others that you have indeed joined countless others as an alcoholic suffering from a chronic disease called alcoholism. Once you admit where you are in life and that you have a need to recover from your addiction to alcohol you can then start the process of learning how to manage your disease.

You will be shown that following the twelve steps will not be easy but that all twelve steps are an essential part of your recovery.

One of the steps to recovery is recognizing that there is a power bigger than you in the universe, namely, God and that you are in need of improving your relationship with God, as you understand "God" to be within your culture. This is because the recovery program at AA has a very strong spiritual component. This component though is non-denominational. In other words you will not be pushed to follow any particular denominational thinking or to join any religion. You are simply asked to recognize that part of managing your life understands where your life comes from and that there is a higher power that effects you in a powerful way.

It is suggested that one should continue to practice the program long after having completed going through all twelve steps of the program. Those who attend your local AA meetings are just like you. They are dealing with a killer disease, alcoholism. They know where you are coming from because they have been there. They also know where you are headed if you do not learn how to manage your disease. The best support you can get is from someone that understands your problems. The AA twelve-step program is based on the belief that when an individual alcoholic accepts that there is a higher power it is the key to overcoming alcoholism. And is the beginning of a long road to learning how to manage the symptoms of the disease.

About the Author:

To get more information about the disease of alcoholism visit http://alcoholismfactsandsymptoms.com/

How to Build Amazing Self Esteem

By Malcolm Clarke

We change our opinion of ourselves constantly, both positively and negatively. Self esteem can be measured on a daily basis as to whether we are going through periods of positivity or negativity. The aim of our lives is to build more positive than negative events, so our self esteem is kept at consistently high l

The relationship we enjoy with our family effects our levels of self esteem. The relationship we have with our partner for instance has this effect. If we get on well with that person we feel that connection at work, and at home. This positive feeling is not felt by people that do not enjoy this good family relationships, which can leave a void period that effects how the person feels about themselves.

Those from a challenging personal background are more likely to blame life for negative events that happen to them. This is because their self esteem is impacted negatively because of their hardship. Their feeling of upset is made worse by the fact that deep down their low levels of self esteem makes them feel that they somehow deserve suffering. Those with higher self esteem and self worth have a larger desire to fight.

To increase our self esteem we should focus on what areas of our life we are particularly successful in. For instance, if you are a respected footballer, this may be the area of life you focus on when you need to feel better or you need a quick injection of confidence. Do not fall into the trap of not valuing what you do well, simply use it regardless of what it is to feel better and increase your self esteem. Then you can try new things and hopefully find a talent you never knew existed.

In business, self esteem is often exuded in amazing quantities by individuals with drive and ambition. This level of self esteem is often not genuine because there is little these people can point to in order to justify these high levels of confidence. Confidence is not the same as self esteem, because the confidence is something that can be faked. Whilst you can cover up your levels of self esteem, deep within you there will be a knowledge of your real level of self worth.

Young people are particularly vulnerable to fluctuating self esteem. Teenage girls are often swimming in self doubt about the way they look, what people are saying about them and how much they weigh. During this intense period of development, it is often very difficult to work out whether the child has high or low self esteem, and as a steel exterior is relatively simple to exude, this makes your true self esteem very difficult to work out for parents, family and friends.

Your self esteem is not one overall assessment. You can feel good about one area of your life but bad about the other for example. An individual may be extremely confident about their chess skills but hate their interaction with the opposite sex. The important thing is that your focus stays on what you do well, and work positively to improve what you feel needs work in your life.

We are basically trying to find you levels of confidence and self worth that allows you to feel happier and better. Lifes challenges and negative events are inevitable but how you handle it is your choice. Reaching your potential demands a good level of self esteem, belief, drive and ambition. There is no room for self doubt. Concentrating on building self esteem is not an empty exercise. It may be the first step in what turns out to be a path of success and achievement for you.

About the Author:

Malcolm Clarke is an acclaimed self help writing professional. You can either try and beat it yourself - or can you look to get professional treatment and help.

I don't recommend going it alone because the stakes are just too high. We're talking about your life, or that of someone you really care about here.

I reckon the reason many of us alcoholics and drug addicts will look to overcome an addiction by ourselves is twofold. We feel a certain shame or embarrassment to admitting to an addiction, especially because it has a certain stigma attached to it, and so would rather just keep our problem to ourselves due to the fear of it 'getting out.'

Ignore that and don't let that affect you - because there is absolutely no shame to admitting to an addiction. The majority of the population today struggle with an addiction in one form or another - whether it be alcohol, drugs, food, sex, gambling or whatever. But most significantly - by admitting to an addiction - you're ready to get help - which is the most important step in coming clean or sober.

I think the second major reason people try and avoid getting professional help for treating an addiction is the cost factor and the thought that it is simply too expensive. Sure there are expensive forms of treatment that you have no doubt read about - but there are also other very affordable forms, that almost anyone, no matter what your financial position, can benefit from.

Imagine if you had cancer. You wouldn't be looking to fight that yourself, surely? I know there are people that have (and successfully so) - but if you can get professional help that is ready and willing to help you - why not make use of it?

So I would always recommend that you try and get yourself into an addiction treatment center. You may have to do some research and make some enquiries as to one's that you can afford that are in your area - but I urge you to go for it. It was the best thing I ever did in fighting my own addictions.

Going to treatment helps you realise that you're not alone. There are other people going through exactly the same things you are. And so you suddenly don't feel so lonely and isolated anymore. Yes - treatment is only the beginning of the road - but it gives you the best possible start towards building a new life for yourself.

About the Author:

You can find loads of excellent and interesting information on what you can do to beat alcoholism and drug addiction at C-P's website. It's pretty much then about what you do for the rest of your life to maintain your sobriety by staying off the drugs or alcohol. I think many that go into treatment don't get this at first and that's why relapse rates can be high - because they see treatment as the end of the road for them, when in fact it's really only the beginning.

So alcoholism recovery and recovery from drug addiction is all about what you do on an ongoing, hopefully daily basis, to ensure you don't get lured back to a life of drink or drugs.

It's the 12-Step or other spiritual program you follow, the new (non-addict) friends you now spend your time with, it's the continuous taking ownership of your emotions and feelings so you don't get into a state where you want to have that drink or pick up that drug, phoning that friend for support when you're feeling low and more vulnerable

The bottom line then - is that recovery is all about the new powerful and uplifting habits you form - that will mean soon enough your destructive 'addict self' will fade into insignificance - because a far more resourceful and powerful you has taken over.

That's why treatment should be seen as preparation and a stepping stone towards recovery - not the end itself.
